UPDATE: Football association's disciplinary body opens proceedings over headbutting incident in Milan
UEFA's disciplinary body is set to meet Monday to look into the headbutting incident instigated by Gennaro Gattuso of AC Milan against Joe Jordan of Spurs
The football association’s disciplinary body has launched a case proceeding to look into the headbutting incident instigated by AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso against Tottenham assistant manager, Joe Jordan.
Skysports said that the Control and Disciplinary Body of the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Champions League has been assembled to discuss the case and determine the next actions to take following the incident.
After the final whistle in a match at Milan on Tuesday, Gattuso was seen rushing over to the Spurs bench and confronted Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager, Joe Jordan.
The Milan midfielder explained in an interview with BBC earlier that he took it on Jordan in order to avoid arguing with the players, acceding that what he did was entirely wrong.
“I lost control. There is no excuse for what I did. I take my responsibilities for that”, the IBTimes reported earlier, citing the report from HeraldSun on Gattuso’s BBC interview.
SkySports noted that Gattuso was already suspended for ‘the return leg at White Hart Lane after picking up a yellow card’, but the Gattuso could be facing a longer suspension after the headbutting incident.
Gattuso messed an assistant manager of the rival team, who was an international striker and a former player of Milan. And more importantly, the midfielder had taken on someone way older than him with whom he was seen visibly angry with after losing the game, where Spurs had a magnificent 1-0 win in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie.
“… but I was wrong to do what I have done. I will have to await what they decide,” Gattuso was quoted earlier as telling BBC.
The UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body is set to meet on Monday to discuss the Milan incident.
