U.S. ITC Bans Import of 4 Apple Devices for AT&T Due to Violation of Samsung Patent
Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is on a losing streak with its ongoing court cases against South Korean rival Samsung.
A few days after The Netherlands Supreme Court rejected Apple's bid to ban the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) declared that the company violated the patent of Samsung which will cause the importation ban on four Apple products for AT&T.
The affected devices are iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, original iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G for AT&T.
Although Apple is based in the U.S., it imports parts outside the country which is covered by the court ban. Apple could appeal the ruling with the White House or Federal Circuit court to overturn the ITC decision.
However, the court decision could be an empty victory for Samsung because most of these products are approaching the end of their sales cycles, although there are some updates in fall.
Samsung filed the lawsuit against Apple in June 2011 as a counter suit against the case filed by Apple in April 2011. It involves patents for cellular transmission of signals.
