Stefan (Paul Wesley) wakes up with two problems thrown on his face. First, the Salvatore vampire receives a phone call from Tripp (Colin Ferguson) to tell that his prisoner, Enzo (Michael Malarkey), is starting to coug out the names of the vampires he knows.
Enzo told the vampire hunter he knows someone in Savannah, Georgia. Stefan's second problem is newbie vampire Ivy. Stefan asks Caroline to "baby sit" Ivy while he heads over to Luke (Chris Brochu) to make a daylight ring for Ivy.
After Alaric (Matt Davis) explained to the class the supernatural origins of Whitmore College's Homecoming Corn Maze party, Elena (Nina Dobrev) tells the Original vampire to stop hiding and to the party and have fun. Aside from Alaric and her friends, Elena invited as well her fellow med student Liam (Marco James) as her date.
In 1994, Kai explains to Damon and Bonnie that they can go back home if portal jump through an eclipse. Kai needs Damon to dig hole where the light of the eclipse will shine down so the Ascendant will get activated from a witch spell. "Anyone standing in the circle of light holding the Ascendant goes home," Kai declares.
Damon has finished digging up a hole or a tunnel but Bonnie wants Kai to show her first the spell before they go down to perform it on the Ascendant. Bonnie finds out that Kai does not know the spell so she stabs Kai with an axe.
Back at dorm room, Caroline tries to keep Ivy indoors and teach her the other stuff she needs to know about being a vampire. However, Ivy is getting bored so she broke Caroline's neck and steps outside to have some fun.
Ivy feeds on a guy and then compels him to forget but the compulsion did not work. The newbie vampire told her victim to just run away from her.
At the corn maze, Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) and Alaric find out that Elena is setting them up while Elena hangs out with Liam. Tyler (Michael Trevino) is also on his way to the corn maze party to meet Liv (Penelope Mitchell) but Ivy's male victim slammed against Tyler's truck.
The truck, with an unconscious Tryler in it, ended up steering towards the corn maze and injuring the people who are at the party. Jo, Alaric, Elena and Liam try to save the injured people.
Alaric struggles with the scent and sight of blood while Elena uses her vampire powers to heal one critical female victim. Meanwhile, Tyler gets worried that his werewolf curse will be activated if the guy he hit with his truck dies.
Liv finds out about Tyler's accident and the guy that slammed onto his truck is not going to make it. Liv makes a sacrifice to help Tyler from triggering his werewolf curse by putting an end to the male victim's life. "You didn't kill him Tyler, I did," Liv stated.
Back in 1994, Bonnie finally figures out the spell that will activate the Ascendant. Bonnie and Damon were about to go back home but Kai is still very much alive. The sociopathic witch shoots Bonnie with a crossbow and tries to get the Ascendant but Damon is not going to let Kai screw them over with his plan.
Damon tells Bonnie that she should go while he is still fighting off Kai but the wounded witch claims she will not be able to make it. Then, Bonnie uses her power to knock over Kai, pull Damon into the circle of light and threw at the Salvatore vampire the Ascendant that she grabbed while he was fighting off Kai. Another bright light appears and sucks Damon out of the tunnel leaving Bonnie with Kai and the Ascendant destroyed.
At the emergency room, Jo finally had the strength to tell Alaric what she feels. Alaric compels Jo that their night out was a disaster, he is boring and she does not want to kiss him but the Original vampire is stunned to find out that his compulsion did not work on Jo when she kissed him and told him that he is far from boring.
Ivy is waiting for Caroline to pick her up and help her with her problem but the newbie vampire encountered Tripp. Caroline arrived just in time to see Tripp capture Ivy.
After another argument with Caroline on how he wants to start his life anew, Stefan ends up mourning and drinking at the Salvatore crypt talking out loud to his dead family. Stefan admits that he is not doing so great without Damon.
Stefan throws the bottle of alcohol out of anger when he finally admitted that he is lost. The younger Salvatore vampire is shocked to see that Damon caught the bottle that he threw. "I'm not dead Stefan. It's a hell of a long story brother but I'm back," Damon tells Stefan before the two hugged each other tight.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 will return with episode 6 titled "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get" on Thursday night, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW Network.
