'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 series finale spoilers: Photos released on 'The Lies Will Catch Up To You;' Kai’s role in Elena Gilbert’s return
Teaser photos surfaced from season 8 episode 13 of “The Vampire Diaries,” titled “The Lies Will Catch Up To You.” Kai (Chris Wood) is back in “The Vampire Diaries” and may turn out to be the most important element in saving Elena (Nina Dobrev).

Images from “The Vampire Diaries” surfaced on TVFanatic, showing the various characters trying to find ways to save everyone. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Alaric (Matthew Davis) realise and hope that Kai may be the one who can help them. In the meantime, Stefan (Paul Wesley) will find a way to make up for killing Enzo (Michael Malarkey), although Bonnie (Kat Graham) may feel different about it.
Based on the official photos from “The Vampire Diaries” season 8 episode 13, Damon has a weapon, although it is not yet certain to be sufficient to destroy Cade (Wole Parks). Damon and Alaric will have to put their issues aside to save their loved ones. The weapon will find Damon and Alaric going for Kai. It remains to be seen whether Kai will offer the help that they need. The images also showed Kai trying to escape from his prison. Kai might be able to undo the spell on Elena, although he may not be the same person. Stefan was also shown with his mouth bleeding. It remains to be seen on “The Vampire Diaries” whether he can make things right with Bonnie.
Kai was last seen in Mystic Falls in “The Vampire Diaries” season 6. He was killed off after linking Elena and Bonnie’s lives. As a result, Elena was placed in a magic-induced sleep, waiting for Bonnie to fully live her life. Cade most likely caused Kai’s comeback, while the latter may have a role to play in waking Elena. In “The Vampire Diaries,” Cade will be going after Elena, while Damon and Stefan will work together to keep her safe.
Based on the “Vampire Diaries” episode synopsis for “The Lies Will Catch Up To You” on TV.com, Damon and Alaric will encounter an old enemy after acquiring a weapon that might destroy Cade. Stefan will be held prisoner by a surprising character and compelled to face a dark secret from his past. In the meantime, Caroline (Candice King) and Matt (Zach Roerig) will attempt to keep Stefan’s violent background from destroying him. Cade will be keen on getting deep into the mind of Bonnie.
“The Vampire Diaries” season 8 episode 13 will air on Feb. 17, 2017 on The CW in the US. It will also air on Australia on FOX8. More updates and details on “The Vampire Diaries” are expected soon.
