'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Showrunners tease a 'fantastic finale;' The CW boss stays cryptic about Nina Dobrev's return
"TVD" mid-season premiere is set for January 13, 2017
“The Vampire Diaries” is about to reach its final episode. With that, fans are wondering what the show has in store for brothers Stefano (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), and whether or not they would get to see Elena (Nina Dobrev) again before the show concludes.
CW President Mark Pedowitz has been cautiously optimistic about reuniting the original triumvirate of Somerhalder, Wesley and Dobrev. However, he did not give anything concrete and final as to whether or not the actress is returning.
Showrunners To Deliver A "Fantastic" End To "TVD"
He has also revealed that creators Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, and the CW itself promised a “fantastic” series finale. However, when asked to elaborate on the uncertainty over Dobrev’s return, he gave only a vague hint that a deal with the actress could have been reached, reports Deadline.
Dobrev left the series at the end of the sixth season and the show placed her character in a coma of sorts. This made her bonded to Bonnie (Kat Graham) and the only way to wake her up once again is if Bonnie dies. However, it is to be noted that a devastating death has been teased when the eighth season began. If that meant Bonnie, then it could mean that Dobrev could resurface.
Katherine or Elena?
However, fans should note that the current plotline is quite open to a lot of possible angles. The gates of hell are wide open and this could mean that Katherine, the doppelganger still portrayed by Dobrev, could re-enter without anyone dying for her. The possible return might mean her instead of Elena.
Earlier, Plec gave TV Line her insights on Dobrev’s possible return and said that it will all come down to scheduling, adding that she feels very good about this possibility. She noted she knows that Dobrev wants to be there 100 percent and she also wants her to be there 100 percent, as well. She even said that she would be devastated if things did not work out, so she has a gut feel that the odds will be in their favour.
“The Vampire Diaries” season 8 returns January 13, 2017 on The CW. In Australia, it will air on FOX8.
