Vivica A. Fox talks upcoming 'Empire' stint and spin-off
Vivica A. Fox is set to guest star on “Empire” this coming Nov. 18 in an episode titled “My Bad Parts.”
TV Line reports that the actress will play Cookie Lyon’s (Taraji P. Henson) long-lost sister, Candice, who will bring some shocking news to the characters of the show.
In an interview with “Watch What Happens Live,” Fox was asked by host Andy Cohen about “Empire,” and the actress revealed that the show’s co-creator Lee Daniels is interested in a possible spin-off about Cookie’s family. Pressed to confirm or deny the possibility of her involvement should the spin-off materialise, Fox said, "Yes, absolutely. And I would jump at the opportunity."
Fox, however, clarified that her involvement in the rumored spin-off is not yet confirmed.
Last year, reports of an “Empire” spin-off began swirling at the Television Critics Association when Daniels said, "There's so much ripe story that we've talked about already, about Cookie's family, what makes her, her."
In September, Fox TV group’s CEO Dana Walden told Vulture that there is a huge possibility for a spin-off and that it may come as early as the next season. Part of the show’s success could be attributed to the well-received character of Cookie Lyon.
In the same interview, Walden said, "If there's a character... that feels original enough, has enough momentum and enough of a storytelling engine, we will definitely look to spin Empire off for next season."
As of now, Daniels is busy working on a new show called “Star,” a new drama about an all-girl singing group’s quest to become it-girls.
"Empire" airs every Wednesday night on Fox.
