“The Voice” Australia 2016 (Season 5) on Monday aired the second episode of its Battle Rounds on Nine, featuring a trio (Koi Boys) and two sisters (Jasmin, Nada-Leigh Nasser) in first of its kind battles. Host Sonia Kruger and coaches Ronan Keating, the Madden brothers, Delta Goodrem and Jessie J. are all feeling the heat rising as contestants fight with their vocal chops to stay in the competition.

Here are the highlights of “The Voice AU” Season 5, Episode 11, where two contestants were (technically) saved and six went home after eight battles. The recap of the first eight battles is right here.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Battle 9: Team Jessie J presents four male vocalists

The Koi Boys vs Ilisavani Cava. Ronan and Jessie turned for Sydney’s Ilisavani, 22, in Episode 5, while The Koi Boys from the Gold Coast, the first trio in the show’s history, got a solid 4-chair turn in Episode 7. For their “sick battle,” as Jessie described, they were assigned “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars.

The Koi Boys said they’ve been performing for ten years, but an hour of learning with Jessie J threw all the years out the window. Jessie zeroed in on their individual weaknesses in a bid to truly improve them as a group. At the same time, the coach wants the timid Ilisavani to fight and show what he’s got. After the actual performance, Sonia exclaimed it was “awesome!” All coaches were on their feet. Coach Jessie announced the winner of the battle is The Koi Boys. Ilisavani went home. (At this stage, Ronan Keating has used all his saves, while the other coaches each had one save left.)

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Battle 10: Team Ronan pairs women from Perth

Kayleigh Killick vs Astrid Repepi. Ronan and Jessie turned for Kayleigh, 27, in Episode 6. Astrid, 24, got Ronan by default in Episode 8. Both dished pop songs in their blind auditions. Ronan picked “Never Forget You” by Zara Larsson, saying he wanted them to connect to the song, which was particularly challenging for single mom Kayleigh, who said she didn’t want to be vulnerable. After the performance, Ronan picked Kayleigh even as he said he was disappointed by not really seeing the two tear it up on stage.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Battle 11: Team Delta pairs two artists in two pianos

Kim Sheehy vs Maxon. Kim, 28, was in Season 2. She is ready to battle now, according to Coach Delta. Kim turned one other coach in the blind auditions, Episode 7: Ronan. Maxon, 27, got Delta by default in Episode 5. Delta sounded excited to battle two vocalists in two pianos. The ladies took on “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John. Delta picked Kim to go through; Maxon went home.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Battle 12: Team Madden pairs ‘best blind audition’ with underdog

Andrew Loadsman vs. Nathan Lamont. Joel Madden told Andrew,30, he gave the best audition in the entire season. He got an all-chair turn rocking out “Demons” by Imagine Dragons in Episode 4. In contrast, Nathan, 22, divided the Maddens. Joel and Ronan turned for him, but Benjie was not sold in Nathan’s second audition after failing to turn a chair in Season 3. For their tone and style, the Maddens picked Mumford and Sons’ “I Will Wait.” Hoping to focus on his vocals, Nathan skipped the guitar even as Andrew chose to play. By the end of rehearsals, Benjie was impressed by Nathan’s singing. Come decision time, tho, the Maddens picked Andrew. Nathan went home.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Battle 13: Team Ronan pairs memorable ‘blind audition’ with shy woman

Emad Younan vs Sarah Browne. In his blind audition (Episode 5), Emad, 39, won the audience over when he sang one of the songs that his late brother had written. He got coach Ronan by default. His audition song was “Only You” by Vince Clarke, but the coaches prodded him to share another song after he said that his journey in music is an homage to his brother who succumbed to leukemia. Learning she was paired to Emad, Sarah, 32, was surprised. Like Emad, she got Ronan by default in Episode 9. Emad said she was intimidated by Sarah, who once said she is extremely shy that it’s crippling. They took on “Dancing In The Dark” by Bruce Springsteen. Ronan picked Emad; Sarah went home.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Battle 14: Team Madden brings out big guns

Nazzereene Taleb vs Maddison McNamara. They are two of the biggest vocalists in Team Madden. Nazzereene, 19, got the Maddens by default in Episode 8. Maddison, 21, turned all chairs in the first episode of “The Voice AU” Season 5. The ladies take on “Stole the Show” by Kygo. Ronan missed some “star quality” on stage. The Maddens picked Nazzereene, leaving Maddison for the coaches. Jessie J. used her last save on Maddison.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Battle 15: Team Delta brings out inspiring fighters

Marcia Howard vs Crissy Ashcroft. Marcia, 55, was from the 1980s band Goanna. Crissy, 49, was a decorated war vet now living with post traumatic stress. They both got Delta by default in Episodes 4 and 6, respectively. Learning that they’d sing Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” made Crissy emotional, as it would be played on that same day for a friend’s funeral. Marcia found a new meaning to what she thought was a love song for the broken-hearted. Both women fought their way to make a fresh start. Delta picked Marcia to move forward in her team. Crissy went home.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Battle 16: Team Jessie brings out another never-before seen battle

Nada-Leigh Nasser vs Jasmin Jade Nasser. These sisters surprised the judges in their back-to-back blind auditions in Episode 8. Jasmin, 21, got Ronan and Jessie to turn their chairs, while Nada-Leigh got Jessie by default. Their rehearsals got a bit emotional with some tough love from Jessie, but the three hug it out in the end with their “traffic light hair.”

After the sisters’ performance of “How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?” Jessie asked to speak to one of the show’s producers after a quick off-mic chat with Benjie Madden. After a brief communication, a landmark decision was made. For the first time, a coach in “The Voice AU” got the battling singers as a duo. It was optional; the sisters could have opted for a regular elimination, but they were thrilled with the offer.

By the end of “The Voice AU” Season 5, Episode 11, Jessie J got a trio and a duo in her team. She also got a new member, Maddison, the only saved contestant of the night (by regular process). Technically, however, two were saved and six were eliminated. At this stage, only Delta and the Maddens have one save left.
