‘The Voice’ earns 12 million viewers for NBC on Week 1
NBC’s reality singing show “The Voice” is pulling a serious competition for primetime ratings on its maiden week of airing, based on the live audience share report generated by the Nielsen Company.
“The Voice” season 11 airs 8 to 10 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays in the United States. On its premiere episode on Sep. 19, the talent show lured 12.10 million viewers to NBC, only trailing behind CBS’ sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” which dominates the ratings with 15.82 million viewers.
“The Voice” managed to entice 12.29 million viewers on its Sep. 20 telecast but ranked second to CBS’ action television series “NCIS,” which got 16 million audience.
The season 11 of the NBC-top-rated talent show aired a preview episode following the Closing Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics on Aug. 21.
‘The Voice’ season 11 team composition
At the end of Week 1, “The Voice” coaches Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton were tied with five artists on their respective teams, while Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus each got four recruits.
As of press time, the 15-time Grammy Award-winning newbie coach has recruited Jason Warrior, Dave Moisan, Christian Cuevas, Lauren Diaz and We McDonald to Team Alicia.
Meanwhile, the 40-year-old country singer has enlisted Sundance Head, Dana Harper, Gabe Broussard, Dan Shafer and Ethan Tucker to Team Blake.
For his part, former Maroon 5 lead singer has lured Riley Elmore, Andrew DeMuro, Billy Gilman and Brendan Fletcher to Team Adam.
Finally, the “Wrecking Ball” singer-songwriter has so far put up an all-female Team Miley with Courtnie Ramirez, Ali Caldwell, Sa’Rayah and Sophia Urista.
As a teaser for “The Voice” Week 2, NBC posted on YouTube the audition video of Aaron Gibson from Atlanta, Georgia, who performed an unconventional rendition of R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion.” Shelton, Keys and Cyrus are competing to be Gibson’s coach.
