Reality talent show, "The Voice," removed strongest contender, Carmen Smith, from the competition after she appeared in the latest music video of "X-Factor's" judge Guy Sebastian.

The producers of the talent show considered Smith's participation in the music video as an unfair advantage.

Channel Nine claimed that the removal of Smith from the competition is not a stunt but a serious decision the producers and the network have to make. Smith's appearance in the music video may give her an advantage by becoming more popular among viewers.

Channel Nine further said that their goal is to ensure that all contestants are on a level playing field before the voting period for the finale.

Carmen Smith has been a regular back-up singer for Sebastian. After finding out that she needed to leave the show, Smith said that she enjoyed appearing on "The Voice."

"It saddens me that I am leaving The Voice much earlier than I had hoped. However, I've loved every minute of it and respect the decision that has been made by Joel and his team," Smith said in a statements.

"I've sung on Guy's albums and been part of his band for many years so I'm thrilled to be in the clip and am looking forward to getting back to work and also working on my solo career," Smith quickly added.

Guy Sebastian's video for the song Gold, which was released last Friday, heavily features Smith who won the battle round over Melbourne mother-of-two, Michelle Serret-Cursio. In the coming live eliminations, one contestant will leave Joel Madden's Team.
