‘The Voice’ Season 9 ‘Blind Auditions Part 5’ recap: Two Dustins secure spots in the show
“The Voice” Season 9 “Blind Auditions Part 5,” aka #VoiceBlinds, aired on NBC on Monday. It took the audience on a spellbinding musical journey as the show was loaded with power-packed performances from singing hopefuls. "The Voice" judges Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams, picked some of the most versatile voices from the fifth part of the blind auditions to be part of their teams.
“The Blind Auditions Part 5” of "The Voice" Season 9" was kick-started by Dustin Christensen, 35, who performed “Downtown Train” by Tom Waits. His performance helped him get a four-chair turn. Narrating the hardships he faced in life, Dustin told the judges that he is almost completely blind in one eye. He was a member of the band that performed at the Olympics but it did not help his career. This prompted Dustin to focus on his studies and he was able to get a master's degree in business administration (MBA).
After the performance, Gwen complimented Christensen by saying that he is the perfect choice for the show. However, Pharrell found his tone to be similar to American musician John Mellencamp and Blake believed that his voice is similar to Neil Diamond. Dustin eventually chose to be a part of Team Blake.
Dustin Monk from Jesup, Georgia, was the next contestant to impress the judges with his magical voice. He performed “Bright Lights” by Gary Clark Jr. and made Adam and Blake turn for him. Dustin chose to go with Adam owing to the fact that he turned first on the performance.
Oklahoma resident Chase Kerby was the next contestant on the stage and performed “The Scientist” by Coldplay. Chase impressed Gwen who was the only one to turn for him. Gwen even gifted a Team Gwen shirt to welcome him to her team.
Shelby Brown from Elberta, Alabama, was another teenager on the show. The 16-yearold contestant performed “Stars” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and won an instant turn from all the four judges. Her high notes impressed the judges the most and being a country singer made her an instant choice for Blake. However, Shelby’s choice is to be in Adam's team.
The other contestants who performed on "The Voice" Season 9 “The Blind Auditions Part 5,” include Blaine Mitchell, Amy Vachal, Sydney Rhame and Summer Schappell. Blaine is in Team Blake, while Summer is with Team Gwen. Sydney and Amy are both in Team Pharrell.
