‘The Walking Dead’ star Lauren Cohan teases ‘huge changes’ in season 6, talks Maggie and Glenn survival
Lauren Cohan teases season 6 of “The Walking Dead” will feature many “huge” changes to the AMC series and that risk-taking will be a central theme between the characters Maggie Greene and Glenn Rhee.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight (ET), the actress shared how the upcoming episode of season 6 will feature more action and adventure for the beloved characters of “The Walking Dead.” Cohan also stated that the team has “turned up the dial” this season 6, including the “all the gore” and the emotional depth that all the cast members had to go through. "To me, it is the mission impossible season," she shared.
Cohan, who play Greene in "The Walking Dead," also told ET that season 6 will continue to be “stressful” for her character, given the looming possibility that her on-screen husband Rhee, portrayed by actor Steven Yeun, might die in one of his missions. Cohan stated that it’s something that her character can’t fight and how Yeun’s Rhee’s strength is in taking risks.
“That's a big theme for Maggie and Glenn as a couple and Maggie and Glenn individually this year: realising that sometimes you can't do everything you want to do, and you can't be as impulsive or risk-taking…” she added. “Glenn has proven himself to be one of their greatest strengths, but there's so many things that happen this year and there's so many huge sweeps and changes.”
When asked whether her character would be able to survive if she lost Rhee, Cohan replied to ET that Greene would have to “keep on going no matter what.” Cohan added, “I don’t think she thought she could survive it after she lost Beth, but something higher -- her God of whatever demonisation -- is just something that keeps her going and I think that's the human desire to survive. But I really hope we don’t have to answer that question this year.”
Meanwhile, season 6 of “The Walking Dead” premiered on Oct. 11 in the U.S. and the season premiere featured a horde of zombies and beloved characters trying to keep Alexandria safe from a possible attack. Apart from the zombies, Cohan previously told E!News that this year’s season will introduce “heartless” foes in The Wolves. She said how the new enemy are feral and stated that the Wolves are “actually humans,” however, there’s nothing human about their behaviour, which Cohan added is "bad, bad news."
Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” airs every Sunday on AMC in the U.S. and every Monday in Australia on Foxtel’s FX channel.
