War of the Flagships: iPhone 5s vs Samsung Galaxy S4 vs LG G2 vs Nokia Lumia 1020 vs Sony Xperia Z1 vs HTC One
The year 2013 is a year of great flagship phones. But, which among the flagship phones suits you the best?
Aesthetics
Among iPhone 5s, Galaxy S4, G2, Lumia 1020, Xperia Z1 and HTC One, the iPhone 5s is the smallest, thinnest and lightest with a 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm dimension and 112 g weight. On the other hand, the Xperia Z1 is the biggest and heaviest with a 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm dimension and 170 g weight. The rest has the following dimensions and weight: the Galaxy S4 at 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm with a weight of 130 g; the G2 at 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm with a weight of 143 g; the Lumia 1020 at 130.4 x 71.4 x 10.4 mm with a weight of 158 g; and the HTC One at 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm with a weight of 143 g.
If it is ergonomics we are talking about, the iPhone 5s is the winner. Among the flagships, it is the easiest to grip and use with one hand. But, if we are talking about aesthetics, the HTC One and the Xperia Z1 run at par with it. The Lumia 1020 and the G2 are distinct in look. The Lumia 1020 is sporting a black, round camera unit on its back which made it look like a digital camera, while the G2 has its snooze and volume buttons placed on its rear to make volume adjustment easier while calling.
Who wins in the beauty department is a matter of taste.
Screen and Display
The G2 sports the widest screen at 5.2 inches, while the HTC One has the greatest pixel density of 469 ppi. In terms of display, the HTC One is the best.
Performance
Except for the Lumia 1020 and the iPhone 5s, which are run by a dual-core processor, all of the smartphones are powered by a quad-core processor.
The Android phones are run by the well reviewed operating system Android Jelly Bean. The Lumia 1020 sports Windows Phone 8, while the iPhone 5s has iOS 7.
Apple's iOS is the easiest to navigate. Users can multi-task with ease and switch from one app to another just by double-clicking the home button.
For those who are just after the basic use of a phone, the Lumia 1020 will suffice with the simple Windows platform. But, the tech savvy user might want to get an Android-powered phone. Among the OS, Android is the most flexible platform and offers about 650,000 apps.
Camera
The Lumia 1020 is the instant winner with its 41 MP PureView technology boosted by the large camera unit on its back. It is seconded by the Xperia Z1 with its 20.7 MP camera.
Battery Life
The G2 and the Xperia Z1 are packed with a superior battery of 3,000 mAh. However, they are both run by a quad-core processor which requires much more power than dual-core processors. But, in normal use, the G2 and the Xperia Z1 would give a longer battery life.
The Ultimate Decree
Users who are into photos can get either the Xperia Z1 or the Lumia 1020 which will suit them best. For an all-encompassing experience, the iPhone 5s is a good choice with its easy multi-tasking capabilities. But, for those who love apps, choose among the Android phones G2, Xperia Z1, Galaxy S4 and HTC One.
