Teen Filipino Performer Invited to Sing on Ellen DeGeneres Show
Another national pride among Filipinos! Popular television host, Ellen DeGeneres has invited a young and unknown Filipino performer, Aldrich Lloyd Talonding, a native of General Santos City, the hometown of international boxing champ, Manny Pacquiao. DeGeneres was impressed by Lloyd she saw in a homemade video, featuring the Filipino teen singing a soulful song, posted on YouTube.
After watching 14-year-old Lloyd of his rendition of Luther Vandross’ “Dance With My Father,” Ellen DeGeneres took to her show and made her surprising but a welcome invitation to the high school student from Pacquiao’s city.
Her 50-second invitation segment began with an introduction on how she and her production team were amazed by Lloyd and she went on to play 17 seconds of the teen’s performance before moving on to her search and hopes that he plays for “her and her friends.”
Scroll down to the VIDEOS and watch Aldrich Lloyd and his cousin and friend, James Walter.
After watching (again, with audience) the video on-air on Ellen DeGeneres, the host was visibly amazed, with a look and sigh of admiration captured on air.
Ellen said: “How beautiful is that? Such soul in that little boy.”
Ellen then proceeded with her on-air invitation, expressing hopes to meet Lloyd to sing on the show - - which in effect could be Lloyd’s international debut.
“I am looking for you. Please come here. I want you to sing for me and my friends. You are amazing,” Ellen said.
The high school student is not the first Filipino who had been to Ellen’s show, an chance that propelled them to stardom and opened more doors of opportunities with the discovery of their untapped talents and great voices, particularly those unrecognized by mainstream media.
The original video from which Ellen and her team used on the show, was posted on YouTube one week before this article was written. And it already has 84, 536 views and 2, 135 Likes as of writing.
“We didn’t expect all this,” Talonding was quoted as saying in a phone interview with a Philippine local newspaper, the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
His cousin, James Walter Bucong who accompanied Lloyd with his guitar, revealed they just recorded the song for their friends.
“We only made the video for our friends,” Bucong said as he recalled how the video came about. “We didn’t plan or intend for it to go viral.”
It sure did and Aldrich Lloyd (and James) could be in for an international performance should local officials provide support for this rare opportunity to come true. Or could other successful singers who also began on the show like Arnel Pineda, Charice Pempengco and Zendee could help make it happen to yet another national pride among Filipinos!
Watch the VIDEOS and expect some goosies with indeed a soulful voice of a 14-year old singer, Aldrich Lloyd Talonding.
