Watch Taylor Swift's Sick Mom Give Emotional Speech At The ACM Awards [Video]

Andrea Swift, mother of Taylor Swift, presented the artist with the Milestone award at the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 19. The singer's mother, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, gave an emotional speech during the presentation.

“For many years, I was her constant companion. And I witnessed a young girl with very few friends become one with many, learning to stand up for herself and the things she believes in." Said the 57-year-old. Andrea then added that her daughter had to be brave to "explore her musical curiosity" and to be a "voice against hate." (Watch the full video below.)

The singer's mother also added that she was a proud mother. She then thanked the music community before thanking the fans for loving her daughter.

Taylor Swift revealed on April 9, on Tumblr, that her mother was diagnosed with cancer. The singer/song writer had written, that for Christmas, she had asked her mother to get screened for health issues. The singer then wrote that her mother wanted the fans to know she might not be in many of Taylor's shows this time. She finished it by saying that her mother had an "important battle to fight."

The "Blank Space" singer's mother has featured in Taylor's "The Best Day" and "I'm Only Me When I'm With You" videos. A report by Taste of Country in 2011 said that Taylor's "The Best Day" was a song written for her mother. She had told the website that when she was 13 her only friend was her mother and that her mother had always been an "escape in a lot of ways." (Watch "The Best Day" video below.)

According to the WashingtonPost.com the ACM presented Swift the milestone award along with Garth Brooks, George Strait, Reba, Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert and Kenny Chesney. The award coincided with the 50th anniversary of the ACMs.

Taylor Swift is currently preparing for her 2015 tour in support of her first official pop album "1989." The first show is set for Tokyo on May 5.
