“Westworld” has been green lighted for a sophomore run but it won’t be coming back until 2018. Show creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have confirmed that the show’s second season will not air this year.

“Westworld” show creators recently revealed that they have started conversations with the show’s home network, HBO, regarding season 2’s air date. Nolan admitted that when they started shooting for “Westworld” season 2, they realised the complexity of writing and producing the show at the same time. Thus the need for more time before the sophomore instalment airs.

Joy, on the other hand, has revealed that the show’s scripts and outlines are in the works. She teased that the work they have done so far is looking really good and ambitious.

Fans can expect that “Westworld” season 2 will showcase events and revelations that viewers of the first instalment may not have expected. “There are some surprises and bits of it that you won’t see coming,” she said. Joy shared that she herself is having fun.

Nolan has seconded that “Westworld” season 2 is really an ambitious project. The show creator has not provided any details as to why it is ambitious, but it is safe to say that the production may be bigger than the first season.

He shared that HBO has urged them to take as much time and resources as they need. For “Westworld” season 2, Nolan and Joy wanted to spend some more time writing, switch into the production stage and then cut.

This means Nolan and Joy, and the show in particular, are not following the annual year-on-year tradition of television. Nolan believes that television is changing and so there is no need to rush things out as far as “Westworld” season 2 is concerned. The “Westworld” show creator said television is something that he really loves. "You want to build as much and put as much in front of the camera first as you can," he told the Hollywood Reporter.

While fans need to wait until next year to finally see “Westworld” season 2, it seems the wait is going to be worthwhile as the show creators are taking the time they need to ensure everything falls into it rightful place. “And the ambition of the project is such that we’re going to take our time to get the second season right,” Nolan told Variety. Fans of the show know that “Westworld” tells its story through multiple timelines and it's likely that this factor is one of the major complexities that the showrunners have to deal with.

Both Nolan and Joy remain mum about the “Westworld” season 2’s official air date. Foxtel airs the show in Australia. Official air date for “Westworld” season 2 is expected to be announced in the near future.
