‘Westworld’ star Thandie Newton in talks to join Han Solo film
“Westworld” star Thandie Newton (Maeve Millay) might be part of the upcoming Han Solo movie. The actress and her camp are currently negotiating with the filmmakers.
If everything goes well, Newton will get the chance to work alongside Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke in the Disney-Lucasfilm feature. The upcoming film is under the direction of Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Newton’s possible role in the Han Solo film is still being kept under wraps. In “Westworld” season 1, the actress has portrayed an android host named Maeve Millay. Her performance as Maeve has been recognised with two SAG nominations for best performance and ensemble in a drama and a Golden Globe nomination.
Newton has already made several big screen appearances. She has played Linda in “The Pursuit of Happyness,” Nyah Nordoff-Hall in “Mission: Impossible II” and Christine in “Crash.”
The actress has also portrayed US National Security Advisor-turned Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in “W,” Oliver Stone's film biography of President George W Bush. Fans will definitely look forward to see her in the Han Solo movie.
Recently, it has been reported that actress Emilia Clarke will be joining the upcoming Han Solo film in an unspecified role. Emilia Clarke is best known for playing Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones.” She received a Gracie Allen award for Outstanding Female Rising Star in a Drama Series or Special for the same role. Disney announced last year that Donald Glover, also known as rapper Childish Gambino, will also be part of the film.
The Han Solo movie is slated to US hit theatres pn May 25, 2018. Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur are its producers.
Newton is expected to return to “Westworld” for its sophomore run which is slated to air in 2018. Newton is likely to start shooting for “Westworld” season 2 later this year. The actress is being repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Independent Talent Group. Newton’s possible involvement in the still untitled Han Solo film was first reported by Variety.
The sophomore season of “Westworld” is bound to tell more stories as show creator Jonah Nolan said there were a handful of things that they weren’t able to touch during the first season. “One of the really nice things about TV is you get to go again,” he said during a New York Comic Con panel.
Official air date for “Westworld” season 2 is yet to be announced. Foxtel has aired “Westworld” season 1 in Australia.
