'American Idol' has been experiencing the WGWG, or what is known to be the White Guy With Guitar Syndrome. It all started with past winners like David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee Dewyze, and Scotty McCreery. And now for 'American Idol' season 11, it had Phillip Phillips as the winner.

Phillip Phillips went head to head with Top 2 contender Jessica Sanchez in three gruelling rounds of performance, but ended up as victor with the most number of votes. This was despite the solid fan base that Sanchez has been having throughout the course of the show.

Phillips worked at a pawnshop in Georgia and has been sharing his musical genius with his brother since he was young. Unlike Sanchez, he shares aspects that are more common with the winners for the last couple of years. Yes, he is Caucasian and plays the guitar well. He also has an impressive gravel voice that appeals as exquisitely charming.

According to many critics in the industry, Phillips may not have the vocal range that can make anyone go wow or all the antiques that can work up the entire stage, but his uniqueness of his musical interpretations made him stand out. Besides, Phillips has proven the fact that he can make thousands of women and girls scream with his singing voice.

Phillips may not have been the favourable choice when it comes to talent, but this has been the cue for 'American Idol' for numerous years. The entire thing still ends up as one huge popularity contest whose favours end with the one who gets the biggest fandom and "sell-ability."
