Wiltshire Public Health Officials Probe The Woman Who Prepares A Smoothie Out Of Raw Placenta Supplied By The Mother
A mother in Swindon who prepares a smoothie out of the fresh placenta by mixing juices and fruits is under investigation by the health officials over concerns of associated health risks. Kathryn Beale reportedly uses the 8 cm long piece of placenta to prepare a smoothie when requested by the mothers.
The local health council is worried about the level of hygiene practiced while preparing the smoothie, however, they have been unsuccessful so far in getting a court's permission to get the smoothie business stopped.
On the other hand, 41-year-old Beale has insisted that her service has become popular in just two years and is conducted in a totally safe and hygienic environment. Reportedly, she temporarily shut down her business until her meeting with the health inspectors.
"I understand that they have to make sure that all food business are running safely," said the mother of two, reported the BBC.
"I think they have been a bit overzealous in trying to shut me down without doing a full inspection. I believe that I do it safely," she continued.
Beale further revealed that there are 50 other people across the country who offer similar service to new mothers. Beale reportedly prepares a smoothie only if she was with the mother at the time of birth or at a private hospital room, since consumption of the placenta should be done just after the birth of the child.
The placenta is an organ that connects the growing fetus with the womb of the mother with the help of the umbilical cord. The trending practice of consumption of the placenta after the baby is born is said to be beneficial to the health of the mother.
