'Winds of Winter' spoilers: Significance of the line 'wherever whores go'
Tyrion Lannister is arguably the most popular character in “A Song of Ice and fire,” and there may be an interesting reveal about him in “Winds of Winter.” The reveal will be related to the fate of his first love Tysha. This article contains minor spoilers.
“Wherever whores go,” Tywin Lannister remarked smugly to his heart-broken son. This line has since struck a chord among the fans. In a discussion on Reddit, the fans debate the significance of this comment. Was this a casual remark? Or is there a deeper meaning to it.
Author George R. R. Martin previously confirmed that the fate of Tysha will be revealed in the future. So, the fans can expect some closure on that sad part of Tyrion’s story. The tease, however, raises an important question, what did happen to the peasant girl after that brutal scene with the Lannister soldiers?
The fan who started the thread suggests that Tysha is either dead, or is wandering the westerlands hoping she was dead. Readers should note that the girl was from westerlands.
Tyrion told Bronn that he may one day kill his father for what he did to Tysha, a Lannister always pays his debts. While the Imp took his revenge, the debt of Tysha still remains in “Winds of Winter.” What price can he pay for doing nothing while his wife was raped, and to add to that being the last one to attack her as well?
One of the fans suggests that there could be a place in Westeros, still not revealed, that could be associated mostly with prostitutes. Just as Bravos is for bankers and assassins, there could be a city with a giant angel statue that is associated with whores.
If there is such a place in Westeros, Tysha could have ended up there. In terms of a practical narrative, it is conceivable that she chose that profession after being accused of being a whore. A young poor peasant in that medieval setting whose husband abandoned her after that brutal gang rape may have very few options left.
Tyrion is expected to land in Westeros later. The character is yet to make an alliance with Daenerys, the way it has been shown in the TV series. The books have already teased this eventuality.
While there is no dearth of theories of “Winds of Winter,” it is still not clear when the book will actually be released. Will Tyrion be reunited with his first wife in the book?
