'Witcher 3' Developer: DirectX 12 Unlikey To Improve Xbox One Resolution
The "Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" has shaped up to be a gorgeous game. The photorealistic visuals showcased on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One demos until now have consolidated its position as the eye-candy king of this generation. Unfortunately for Xbox owners, CD project RED's pride and joy evidently performs better on the PS4 like all games before it. The developer has managed to optimise the game at 1080p for Sony's flagship console, whereas it can only muster up a resolution of 900p on the Xbox One.
Xbox One owners were hoping for the upcoming DirectX 12 SDK update to close the resolution gap. Gamespot reports that doesn't seem to be the case in the learned opinion of Damien Monnier, Senior Designer for the game. The developer has clarified that the DirectX 12 update cannot guarantee that the Xbox One version would be able to match the 1080p performance of the PlayStation 4. The Senior Designer ruled out the possibility of any DirectX 12-enabled miracle that would close the performance gap between the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game.
CD Projekt RED hasn't issued an announcement regarding this contentious issue, but it was instead revealed in a Twitter exchange Monnier had with fans on the micro-blogging website. A fan had asked the designer which platform would be better to play "Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" – a PC meeting minimum requirements or the Xbox One. Monnier responded by stating that even though the Xbox One version would outshine the PC version being played at minimum settings, the latter would be worth just for the resolution advantage alone.
Another Twitter user enquired whether the DirectX 12 update for Xbox One could change the resolution game for the console. Monnier struck down the theory by stating that it would require more than a DirectX 12 upgrade to bring the resolution of the Xbox One version of "Witcher 3" on par with the 1080p capability of the PS4.
However, that doesn't mean that CD Projekt Red has entirely given up on the idea of achieving 1080p performance on the Xbox One, according to VG247. Monnier responded that the team would try its best to optimise and eke the last bit of performance out of Microsoft's console, but the developer prefers being sceptical to avoid making any promises that it cannot potentially deliver.
