‘The Witcher 3’ Devs Talk PS4 vs Xbox Version And The End Of ‘The Witcher’ Series
With a number of current-gen games launching with bugs and performance issues on both Xbox One and PS4, it’s no wonder that CD Projekt Red has come out to assure gamers that both console versions of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” will offer a pristine experience. As the game’s April 14 release inches ever closer, the studio is also discussing exactly what it takes to build the perfect RPG on such advanced hardware.
The news comes in the form of a massive slew of tweets from “The Witcher 3” senior designer, Damien Monnier, the majority of which have been organised into a coherent stream by DualShockers. Of note to owners of the game on all platforms is Monnier’s reiteration that “The Witcher 3” will be a truly gargantuan experience, possibly offering over 200 hours of gameplay.
Speaking about the PS4 version, Monnier confirmed that the reason it hasn’t been seen much in previews is due to a requirement that’s part of a contract CD Projekt Red signed with Microsoft. He added that the PC version and the PS4 version are a fairly close match, noting that he’s confused both in the past and said there are unfortunately no plans to bring “The Witcher 1” and “The Witcher 2: Assassin’s of Kings” to the Sony platform.
On the subject of the Xbox version of “The Witcher 3,” Monnier said that it’s graphically superior to the PC version on minimum and said that the primary difference between the Xbox and PS4 versions lies in the 900p vs 1080p resolution difference. He added that the team is not implementing DirectX 12 support in the game because the it’s currently busy with more important things. Monnier also responded to a fan asking whether all the free DLC for “The Witcher 3 would be limited to small, cosmetic updates. He said there would be quests coming as well, promising they wouldn’t be small at all.
With all the content and features packed into the game, fans might wonder whether there’s more of “The Witcher” on the horizon from CD Projekt Red. Speaking to GamingBolt, senior art producer Michal Krzemiński indicated that this would be the studio’s last outing in the universe, but said fans would be able to follow Geralt’s adventures in other forms.
“It’s the last part of Geralt’s story and of The Witcher series. However, there are many ways in which you can get back to the universe, we’ve got the amazing comic books by Dark Horse (The Witcher House of Glass), we’ve got The Witcher Adventure Game, we’ve done along with Fantasy Flight Games and last, but not least, Witcher fans can grab the free Witcher Battle Arena MOBA game on iOS and Android,” he said.
"The Witcher 3" is an open-world action RPG, based on the "The Witcher" series of books from acclaimed Polish novelist, Andrzej Sapkowski. Following a series of delays last year and in early 2015, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” finally launches on May 19 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
