'Wonder Woman' Production code name hints at DC villain; Filming to take place in Basilicata
“Nightingale,” the production code name of the new “Wonder Woman” movie, hints at a familiar DC villain from the comic books. Filming of the movie is expected to begin in London during the fall. New reports indicate additional locations where the movie will be shot.
Production Weekly reports that the code name for the movie is “Nightingale,” which is also the name of a villainous character who first appeared on the July 1, 1984 comic book of “Wonder Woman” (Vol. 1 #317). The real name of the character is Seiji Kato, who is a Japanese citizen.
Nightingale is good at martial arts and is also an expert swordsman. The presence of the character in the Patty Jenkins movie has not been confirmed and so far there have been no details about the villain in the film. The confirmed cast members of “Wonder Woman” are Gal Gadot in the lead role and Chris Pine as the love interest Steve Trevor.
Dutch-Swedish cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema will be joining the project as the director of photography, according to a video by Popcorn Talk on YouTube. Van Hoytema has worked on popular Hollywood movies like “Interstellar” and “Her” in the past. He was also the director of photography for the highly anticipated forthcoming Bond movie “Spectre.”
Some of the scenes of the movie will also be filmed in Basilicata, Italy, according to a report by Yahoo . The report notes that movies like Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” and the upcoming “Ben-Hur” movie were filmed in this location.
Gadot will first be seen playing the role of Wonder Woman in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which will be released in March 2016. This will be the first time that the character will be seen on the big screen. Wonder Woman, a.k.a. Princess Diana of Themyscira , has so far only been seen in the comic books and the 1970s TV series, in which Lynda Carter played the lead role.
Producers of the forthcoming “Wonder Woman” movie have not yet revealed the plot details of the film. The Gal Gadot-starrer is slated for release on June 23, 2017 in the U.S. The film’s producers also haven’t announced the release date of the movie in Australia. Gadot will be reprising her role as Diana Prince in the two part “Justice League” movies that will be released in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
