World Robot Conference: Chinese firm introduces 'armed attack' anti-terror robots
With increasing number of terror threats across the world, China has unveiled its new line of defence to fight against it. At the 2015 World Robot Conference, an event which has just concluded in Beijing, a Chinese firm has introduced a new armed attack “anti-terror” robot that can launch an attack against the terrorists.
The set of three toy-sized robots can coordinate with each other on the battlefield, according to their developers from the HIT Robot Group in China's Harbin city. Xinhua reports that each of the three robots specialises in armed attack, reconnaissance and small explosive ordnance disposal (EOD).
The reconnaissance robot can scrutinise a field with the help of cameras or sensors. Upon detecting some kind of dangerous material, such as an explosive, poisonous gas or chemical, the robot transmits back information to the headquarters for further analysis and action. Based on the analysis of the potentially harmful explosive found, the robots that specialise in armed attack and small EOD initiate their mission.
The armed attack robot, also known as the attacker, carried rifles, grenade launchers and other minor-caliber weapons for an attack. A small telescope installed on the robot enables it to hit the target from a long distance.
The small EOD robot is capable of moving and defusing the bombs and is primarily meant for the soldiers who work alone. It weighs around 12 kgs and is made up of industrial plastic and aluminium alloy, which makes it easier for the soldiers to carry it on their shoulders.
The Telegraph reports that the set of three robots is currently priced at 1.5 million yuan or 230,000 U.S. dollars. In addition to anti-terror operations, the robots can also be used in firefighting, forestry and agriculture.
