Major rumours have surfaced suggesting that the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) may not take their biggest event of the calendar year, WrestleMania to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2017.

“For those holding your breath today, I advise you to stop immediately. There is no scheduled WWE announcement today for that event and we are also hearing that as of now, Mania 33 in 2017 is not confirmed for Minneapolis.” PWInsider.com reported.

For many months, speculations were high that WrestleMania 33 was going to the new, under construction U.S. Bank Stadium, but latest reports suggest that WWE are not willing to hand Minnesota their grand-daddy of them all in 2017.

The new U.S. Bank Stadium, budgeted to be around $1 billion (AU $1.3 billion) was hoping to bag the WWE extravaganza as recently as a couple of months back and it seems interesting to see that WWE is not willing to host the event anymore over there.

The Vice President of Public Affairs and Stadium Development for the New Vikings stadium, Lester Bagley, claimed that Mania 33 was coming to the venue in August 2017. However, WWE was quick to refuse the claim, adding that Minneapolis was one of the several cities which the wrestling promotion was considering for the event.

When completed, the U.S Bank Stadium will hold around 65,400 spectators which can be expanded to 73,000 for the Super Bowl.

“Apparently, Minneapolis is no longer in the hunt for the 2017 WrestleMania as was once rumored. That has yet to be confirmed but that’s what I’m hearing.” Jim Ross updated on his site JRSBARBQ.com.

WWE’s Monday Night Raw was held in Minneapolis, and was the center stage for the company’s Slammy Awards where many expected WWE to make the announcement. However, nothing as such happened and the awards were mainly highlighted around Sting, Ronda Rousey, John Cena, The Rock, Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker, with none of the superstars present in the arena.

According to reports, if Minnesota does not host WrestleMania, then the pay-per-view may head either to Orlando or Philadelphia. However, nothing is finalised until WWE makes an official announcement.
