“X Factor Australia” has ended another hopeful’s dream. The Seven Network talent show has eliminated Barry Southgate after garnering low viewers’ votes and failing to impress the judges on Monday night.

The 30-year-old NSW resident went head to head with the group of Swedish brothers JTR in a bid to stay on the finals.

His rendition of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” wasn’t able to captivate the viewers on Sunday night, which left him fighting for his life against JTR, who also failed to amaze voters with their cover of Neon Trees’ “Everybody Talks.”

So as it happened, Barry tried to impress the judges with his cover of Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors,” while the brothers – John, Tom, and Robin Lundback – performed “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” by The Script.

But unfortunately for Barry, the judges – Dannii Minogue, Ronan Keating, Redfoo, and Natalie Bassingthwaihte – chose not to save him after his “really, really pitchy” performance.

Only Dannii, his mentor, backed him up, choosing to send JTR home instead of him. But with three against one, Dannii was clearly outnumbered; hence, Barry was sent home.

Earlier in the show, the top 10 finalists, Barry included, showcased their talents in their group performance, in which they sang “Can You Feel It,” originally by The Jacksons.

Also, The Collective – consisting of Trent Bell, Julian De Vizio, Zach Russell, Jayden Sierra, and Will Singe – returned to the show that gave them their break. The boy band performed their single “Another Life” on the stage where they bagged the third place title over a year ago.

Another special guest of the night was American R&B star Miguel, who serenaded the audience with his chart-topping track “Adorn.”

On Sunday, the remaining nine finalists – Omar Dean, Taylor Henderson, Jai Waetford, Joelle, Ellie Lovegrove, Jiordan Tolli, Dami Im, JTR, and THIRD D3GREE – will take the stage once more to court the viewers for their votes before one of them is eliminated on Monday.
