After several weeks of winning live decider singing showdowns, Mahalia Simpson was unable to secure a spot in “X-Factor Australia” season 7 quarterfinals and was voted off the competition. Meanwhile, fan favourite Cyrus Villanueva nabs a spot in the top 4 semi-finals list.

“X-Factor Australia” judge Dannii Minogue is the first to lose all of her contenders in the reality singing competition, Rickey.org stated, given Simpson's departure. The 23 year old aspiring singer landed at the bottom two list during Tuesday’s live decider show, along with Big T.

In the singing showdown, Simpson sang Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” while Big T performed R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.” Season 7 “X-Factor Australia” judges Chris Isaak and James Blunt voted to keep Big T safe, while Guy Sebastian and Minogue opted for Simpson to stay in the competition. This is the second deadlock vote for the judges, the first one was during last week’s live decider show where Natalie Conway was ousted from the competition.

With the deadlock vote, the “X-Factor Australia” season 7 contender with the lowest public votes leaves the competition. In Tuesday’s live decider show, Simpson was sent home since she had the lowest number of votes.

Despite having lost the chance to make it to “X-Factor Australia” season 7’s semi-final rounds, Simpson felt that she learned a lot during journey, Yahoo 7 TV reported. “It’s been a journey of finding confidence in myself,” she said during Tuesday’s live decider show. “I feel I can take a lot away from this.” Simpson also thanked her fans for the support and her mentor Minogue.

Minogue also praised Simpson and commented on how she has done “the biggest climb” in season 7 of the competition. “It’s been incredible to watch and be a part of,” Minogue added.

Meanwhile, the 19 year old aspiring singer Villanueva will continue to amaze fans and judges with his vocal prowess in “X-Factor Australia” season 7’s semi-final rounds. The Filipino-Australian singer was declared safe during Tuesday’s live decider show, along with Louise Adams and the singing duo Jess and Matt. The three contenders and Big T are set to sing two songs in next week’s live show episode.

“X-Factor Australia” season 7 airs every Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
