“The X Factor New Zealand” star Melanie Blatt has defended her co-judge Natalia Kills for cursing at audience members during an audition shoot in Auckland. The former All Saints songstress said she understands why her fellow English artist “lost it” with the audience.

On Tuesday, some audience members took to Twitter to report Kills’ behaviour during the audition shoot at the SkyCity auditorium. After a contestant became “mouthy” on stage. According to Stuff, some audience wanted Kills to let the hopeful through, but Kills was adamant in rejecting the contestant.

She expressed her frustration over the behaviour of the audience, and she also unleashed some choice words at them. Unfortunately, there were children in the audience, and they, too, had heard Kills’ curse words. She walked out of the stage, while half of the audience also exited the auditorium.

The show has since apologised for Kills’ actions during the show. “During a long day of filming, The X Factor NZ judge Natalia Kills expressed frustration at the behaviour of some sections of the audience,” the show’s publicist Jeane Mowatt told Stuff. “Her words were not well chosen, and both Natalia and TV3 apologise for any offence caused.”

Blatt said she understand why Kills behaved that way, saying auditions “can be hard” for the judges.

“It takes some time to get used to that environment and headaches can start from early in the morning,” she told the Herald on Sunday. She insisted that Kills, who is a new addition to the show together with her husband, Kiwi crooner Willy Moon, is a great addition to the show.

Kills and Moon replace first season judges Ruby Frost and Daniel Bedingfield, and join Blatt and Stan Walker in the judging panel for the second season.

“They are great for the show and have a new perspective on things,” Blatt added. “I am really enjoying getting to know them and the different experience it has been since they have joined the panel.”

“The X Factor NZ” will premiere in 2015 on TV3. Dominic Bowden also returns as presenter.
