'X-Files' Reboot set for release in January 2016 [Watch Videos]
“X-Files” stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reunite as former FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully to revive the cult TV series. The show’s fans from across the world have been waiting with bated breath for the spine-tingling series to return on TV. The sci-fi/ horror drama originally aired for nine years, from 1993 to 2002. Fox announced the new “X-Files” on March 24.
TV Line reports that the six-episode event series is debuting on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016. The “X-Files” reboot will have a two-night premiere. Duchovny confirmed on the “Late Show With David Letterman” last April that actor William B. Davis, will be returning in the series as “The Smoking Man.” The said character was a government official who was also the chief arch-nemesis in the previous “X-Files” episodes.
According to Deadline, Duchovny also told Letterman that other characters from the original cast will be in the upcoming “X-Files” reboot including Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner). Entertainment Weekly reports that agents Scully and Mulder will be joined by the “Lone Gunmen,” a trio of conspiracy theorists. These will be portrayed by Bruce Harwood (John Fitzgerald Byers), Dean Haglund (Richard "Ringo" Langly) and Tom Braidwood (Melvin Frohike).
The reboot series will follow the NFC Championship Game on Fox. TV Line reports that it will be aired on Mondays at 8 pm.
David Duchovny reportedly got emotional while going through the new “X-Files” script. He said that the story is “fantastic.” In an interview with the Entertainment Weekly, Duchovny showed his eagerness to be in “another cycle” of the “X-Files” series.
“The X-Files” new episodes will have Gillian Anderson donning a wig. According to reports, Anderson chose the wig over “dyed red hair.” The actress fears that repeatedly dyeing it can lead to severe scalp problems.
Fox Broadcasting Company has run the first promo of the “X-Files” reboot. The trailer shows Scully and Mulder doing what they do best – investigate some unsolved paranormal cases. The new “X-Files” 2016 miniseries will have six episodes, starting with “My Struggle” and “"Home Again." Three of the episodes will reportedly have an alien mythology arc.
