David Duchovny recently told the media he got emotional upon reading the script of the first episode of the “X-Files” reboot. He could not give teasers, but he said the story is “fantastic.”

“I started crying reading the first page. It was just so strange to see the names on the page,” Duchovny told Entertainment Weekly. He pointed out the tears were not meant for the story itself. He said reading the character’s names on the first page set him off; he had wanted to do the “X-Files” reboot for a long time.

Asked to describe the script, Duchovny told EW there was “absolutely nothing” that he could tell. Still he said it was “fantastic.” The actor pointed out he could not tell whether he or his co-star Gillian Anderson could do a 20-episode run. Still, he said he is interested in “another cycle” after the six episodes have been delivered.

Duchovny’s new series, “Aquarius,” is set to premiere on NBC this Thursday. He plays Los Angeles police sergeant Sam Hodiak. The series takes place in 1967. He and undercover officer Brian Shafe (Grey Damon) will look into a missing person’s case. Their investigative work will eventually lead them to Charles Manson.

Incidentally, Anderson is currently on NBC, as well. She plays Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier, psychotherapist of Hannibal Lecter in “Hannibal.” The show’s third season is set to premiere on June 4. In this new season, Bedelia is becoming darker than ever under the influence of her patient.

The X-Files aired from 1993 to 2002. David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Dr. Dana Scully remain to be iconic names to this day. They will be joined in the reboot by Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner, and William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man.

Fox ordered six new episodes of “X-Files” on March 24. The reboot will kick off on January 24, 2016. Series creator Chris Carter is on board to deliver the reboot.
