Xavier McClinton: Man Who Tried to Throw Off Wife at San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Ended Up Falling, Charged with Attempted Murder and Domestic Violence
Karma was very quick with Xavier Jarrell McClinton, a 47-year-old Mill Valley personal trainer, who tried to throw off his wife at the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge during a heated argument on Friday, December 13. Mr McClinton's plan did not work because he was the one who fell into the water and attempted murder as well as domestic violence charges were filed against him.
According to the Huff Post Crime report, Xavier McClinton was driving at around 2:25 p.m. on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge when the argument with his wife started. Things got heated up between the couple that made Mr McClinton try to crash their vehicle into the water but it hit a barrier.
Witnesses decided to help the woman in danger when Xavier McClinton dragged his wife out of their vehicle and tried to throw her off the bridge. The hero motorists grabbed the woman's legs and held on tight before plunging 15 feet into the water underneath as Mr McClinton fell.
The suspect was arrested after the U.S. Coast Guard and fire officials conducted their rescue operation. McClinton's unnamed wife suffered a slash from the mouth's side to the cheek so she had several stitches.
The San Mateo Daily Journal reports Xavier McClinton started to get paranoid two weeks before the incident. Steve Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County District Attorney, claimed that Xavier McClinton thought people were trying to break into his home and kill him even though nobody was really there.
"This seems like something may have caused a psychiatric break. According to the victim, up until two or so weeks ago he was living a normal life," Mr Wagstaffe stated. Mr McClinton, father to three kids, is being held without bail at the San Mateo County Jail. He already appeared in court with his attorney but delayed a plea until Friday, Dec 20.
At the Friday hearing, Mr McClinton's defense attorney is expected to request bail even though the prosecution opposes the release of the suspect. Defense attorney Anthony Brass has not given any comment yet on the case while the Foster City police continue in searching for the people who witnessed the bridge incident.
