Xbox head Phil Spencer confirms Xbox One Scorpio price
Xbox head Phil Spencer has confirmed that Xbox One Scorpio will be more expensive than the Xbox One S. Spencer has stated in an interview that the Scorpio will be a premium console and Xbox One S will be the most affordable console of Microsoft. The Xbox One Scorpio is scheduled to launch in 2017.
“Scorpio will be a premium console. It will cost more than S, obviously, that’s how we’re building it,” Spencer told LevelUp.Com. “We haven’t announced price points for Scorpio yet, but I want to make sure the investments that we’re putting into the product of Scorpio meets the demands of the higher end customer, and that will be a higher price.”
During Spencer's interview, he also talked about the behaviour of the company's market in choosing the console. He said that there is no one product that the customers come in to buy. Some customers buy the Xbox One S but there were also customers who buy the original model.
"It is really the breadth of all the products you have at all the price points," Spencer said.
Currently, the Xbox One S is sold starting at US$299 (AU$405) with features including 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, 4K video streaming, HDR, 40 percent smaller console and up to 2TB of storage.
He also pointed out that the Xbox One Scorpio is for the customers who wanted the most that they can get from a console.
"For us, when we think about Scorpio, it's for a higher-end customer who demands the most they can get out of a console, and we built a console to meet that demand," Spencer said.
Microsoft promotes Xbox One Scorpio as the most powerful console ever with six teraflops of graphical processing power, eight CPU cores and 320 GB/s memory bandwidth. It is the first and the only console that enables hi-fidelity VR and true 4K gaming.
