Xbox One News: Play the PS4 on the Xbox One; Entertainment Apps Have Achievements; No Backwards Compatibility
Whether it's a gimmick or a pleasant accident that you'd want to take advantage of, it's possible to play the PS4 on the Xbox One. Several reports have now been pointing to the HDMI pass-through feature of Microsoft's next-gen console, meant to be connected to and work with other devices in the home, which apparently also includes its greatest rival, the PS4.
PS4 news: Here's how you can get a PS4 gaming kit---and maybe try out the HDMI-Xbox One connection for yourself.
Speaking with a Microsoft engineer, Penny Arcade has confirmed the new ability as well as the fact that the possible lag that comes with the experiment is not as significant because it is hardly perceivable by the human eye.
What's more, apart from the PS4, the Wii U can also be connected with this new fun feature. So long as a device has HDMI output, it can work well with the Xbox One.
But part of this feature is the fact that, given that the Xbox 360 has HDMI, the Xbox One can also be used to play Xbox 360 games. In fact, the Microsoft engineer that was contacted by Penny Arcade admitted this to be his own way of doing things.
It's a pretty fun feature, when you think about it, and though it does promote some of the Xbox One's competition, it doesn't take away from the fact that it brings out a great functionality for the Xbox One. The only question would be the possible consequences that will likely appear once more people try out this new feature.

Entertainment has its Benefits
Watching movies and TV shows can let you unlock Achievements, in addition to what you can unlock when you play games. Microsoft has recently confirmed this new feature, making the Xbox One the supposed ideal console for both gaming and entertainment.
Videogamer reports that this follows the rumours from months ago when the idea was patented by Microsoft for achievements in aspects that go beyond gaming. However, with previous announcements that Gamerscore is only linked to games, it's not yet clear how these entertainment app achievements will become Gamerscore or if it will have its own classifications and rules.
For now, you can choose from 20 entertainment apps to consume once the Xbox One launches, including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, Watch ESPN, Fox Now and Twitch, to name a few.
Apparently, the Xbox One design is good for the next 10 years: Read the complete report here.
Final Word: No Compatibility with Xbox 360 in Cloud
All the supposed power in the Xbox One cloud pretty much held the hopes of Xbox fans that they will still be able to play their Xbox 360 games on the next-gen device. Well, now, these hopes have been shattered.
Microsoft has already confirmed that any streaming service that would, hopefully, allow for playing Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One is not possible, mostly because of quality control and feasibility of implementation, with the latter referring to Sony's upcoming Gaikai service.
In an interview with Metro, it seems that any online streaming service that hints at possible backwards compatibility will require very fast Internet speed connections in order to function as desired, and with the capabilities that most players have today in terms of access to the necessary connections, this may not be a great experience after all.
Sony has yet to detail how its Gaikai service will function to let PS4 owners pay PS3 games on the next-gen console, but hopefully, they have studied the extent of the Gaikai technology for future PS4-PS3 gaming.
