Xiaomi Mi 5 to release on Dec. 3 with Snapdragon 820 on board
It's expected to have a feature similar to Apple’s 3D Touch
Xiaomi hasn’t revealed any information about the release date and features of its upcoming Mi 5 flagship smartphone. Fresh rumours, however, indicate the Xiaomi Mi 5 release date is Dec. 3. It might become the first ever smartphone to arrive with the Snapdragon 820 chipset.
A well-known tipster from China, Leaksfly, revealed on the Weibo social site that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer will unleash the Xiaomi Mi 5 on Dec. 3. He has even revealed the handset will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset, G for Games reported
But before Xiaomi unveils its new flagship, Qualcomm is expected to launch the Snapdragon 820 on Nov. 20. In the recent past, Qualcomm had teased the features of the Snapdragon 820 chipset, but it hasn’t yet been made available for smartphone makers to use.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 was announced in July 2014. It’s been more than a year since then and the company is still mum on the Xiaomi Mi 5 handset. Previous leaks suggest the phone will either feature a 5.2-inch screen or a 5.3-inch screen with support for Quad HD resolution.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to have a feature similar to Apple’s 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s. In addition, its display is expected to come equipped with ClearForce technology by Synaptics. The Corning Gorilla Glass is likely to shield the Xiaomi Mi 5 display.
The Snapdragon 820 chipset will be coupled with 4 GB of RAM. It will feature rear and front cameras of 16 MP and 5 MP, respectively. Speculation has it that it will come in two storage flavors: 32 GB and 64 GB. The base model is expected to be priced around US$315.
Other features of the Mi 5 include a USB Type-C connector, a fingerprint sensor and a 3,030 mAh battery. Recently, Xiaomi Today reported the manufacturer slashed the price of Xiaomi Mi 4 by 17 percent.
