The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus went on sale last Sept 19 and by the first weekend more than 10 million units of both the smartphones were sold. Apple claims that 10 million sales in the first weekend is their new record.

Last Sept 19, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus were sold in countries like the U.S., U.K., Australia, Japan, Hong Kong Singapore, Puerto Rico, France and Germany. Last Sept 26, the iPhone 6 is going to arrive in more than 20 countries like Austria, Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE and more.

By the end of 2014, both the handsets will be available in 115 markets. According to GSMArena, an interesting thing to note is that China is not on the list of the countries that are to receive the new iPhone 6 units on Sept 26. Moreover, the Cupertino company has not revealed when they would start selling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in China, the largest smartphone market in the world.

Apple has not disclosed that how many iPhone 6 units and how many iPhone 6 Plus units were sold by the first weekend. GSMArena claims that they assume that the sales of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 would be higher than the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. The popular tech site adds that usually people prefer to purchase pocket-friendly smartphones over large-sized phablets.

PhoneArena reports that in the previous year, when the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C were launched, the company recorded a sale of 9 million in the opening weekend. Last year, the iPhone 5S came out as premium handset, whereas the iPhone 5C was launched a mid-range handset.

This year Apple has not launched a mid-tier handset, instead it has entered the phablet market by releasing a larger iPhone 6 Plus handset. The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus had a record breaking start too. In the initial 24 hour of availability, more than 4.4 million people pre-ordered the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus handsets.

According to AppleInsider, the demand of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has been so high that it takes around seven to ten business days for new orders to reach the customers.
