2 iPad Mini Killers for Samsung: Galaxy Note 8.0 & Galaxy Tab 8 on Full HD Super AMOLED
Samsung is employing a two-punch approach to beat Apple's iPad Mini this year. The company will reportedly unleash a new tablet called Galaxy Tab 8 with Super AMOLED a few months after the commercial debut of the quad-core Galaxy Note 8.0.
Initial specs provided by SamMobile for the planned tablet pointed to a 1080p slate with screen that beams out a 1920 x 2100 resolution, with Samsung likely highlighting the Full HD Super AMOLED it introduced via the Galaxy S4 on March 14.
It will tussle directly with the rumoured iPad Mini 2, which has been generating hype chiefly on the belief that Apple will include Retina display technology with the tablet refresh.
If Retina indeed is coming out of the box with the Mini 2, its resolution of 2048 x 1536 will easily dwarf the already impressive screen attributes of the Tab 8.
However, Samsung will compensate the slight screen disadvantage with more generous specs provisions in the CPU and RAM departments, which likely will match the quad-core 1.6GHz processing might with 2GB of RAM that the Galaxy Note 8.0 will showcase come its release time.
Another come-on for would-be Samsung tablet buyers is the reengineered technology that Full HD Super AMOLED is bringing to the table, boasting not only of crisp screen rendering but also of efficient energy use.
For users, it translates to immersive tablet use with assurance of longer operating hours in a single charge - a proposition that remains a question mark for the iPad Mini 2.
Part of the game plan, SamMobile said, is also the undercut the traction established by Google's Nexus 7.
The Galaxy Tab 8 will be unpacked with Samsung using the 2013 IFA in Berlin, which is scheduled to be staged on the first week of September.
The same platform is eyed by analysts as the same staging event for the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Tab 3 Plus that will steam roll with screen size of 10.1-inch or 11.4-inch.
But prior to that, the Galaxy Note 8.0 will crash the scene on late Q2 2013, bringing a new small tablet experience that underscores the productive capabilities of the S-Pen stylus plus call functions that Samsung has integrated with the 8-inch slate.
