2 Reasons to Get Nexus 6 Now: Lollipop 5.0 is Gorgeous and Stocks Could Run Out Quick
True to its word, Google started taking pre-orders of the Motorola-crafted Nexus 6 and basing on initial reports the likelihood of stock outs happening is quite high.
Play Store swiftly overwhelmed
In the case of U.S. buyers, the waiting time for both the 32GB and 64GB model is four weeks tops but that would be for those fortunate enough to have secured their orders real quick. According to Android Central, the Nexus 6 on Google Play Store seemed to have run out of supply too soon.
"Many are having difficulties getting a phone into their cart, or just seeing a message that everything is sold out. Deja vu, all over again," the publication said on its updated report. Android Central is of course referring to the Nexus 4 and 5 distributions that went awry.
Recall that the previous Nexus smartphones models debuted to overwhelming reception from Android fans but when buying time came, supplies are hard to come by. In the case of the LG-built Nexus 4, for instance, orders that were placed during the 2012 holiday season did not arrive until early 2013.
32GB variant still up for grabs
While Business Insider is reporting that all variants of the Nexus 6 are labelled as out of stock over at the Play Store, BGR is saying that some shoppers could be in luck as the 32GB edition remains available. However, that might not be the case very soon as Nexus fans would likely settle for the next best thing if the 64GB build will not be displayed shortly.
Despite selling at higher price marks - $649 for the 32GB and $699 for the 64GB - the Nexus 6, powered by Android Lollipop 5.0, is fast-shaping up as a blockbuster for Google, possibly exceeding the sales numbers registered by its immediate predecessors.
In the handset, Google deftly mixed high-end components with Lollipop that early reviewers said reflects a huge leap from the older Android versions.
Simple but gorgeous interface plus power beneath
Android 5.0 is purely rendered in the latest Nexus phone as shown by the simplified user interface and flatter icons. A set of images published by Business Insider should support such observation.
Yet even as its Lollipop IU is sweet and straightforward, the Nexus 6 easily dwarfs over its rivals with its near 6-inch screen profile that boasts of QHD panel in 2560 x 1440 display resolution with pixel density of 498 pixels per inch.
What fires up the native Android device is the quad-core Snapdragon 805 chip that steams up to a high of 2.7GHz, tapped too on 3GB of RAM that ensures snappy performance. The phone also sports a camera combo of 13MP on rear and 2MP on front and relies on a 3200mAh battery.
The actual Nexus 6 release date will happen in the first week of November but per numerous reports, buyers not fast enough to reserve orders would have to wait until Christmas 2014 before they can play with the kit. Or even beyond.
