2011 in Review: Spike Video Game Awards' Winners & Surprises
This year's Spike Video Game Awards crowned "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" as the game of the year. This awarding ceremony is a yearly event and it gives honors to outstanding achievements within the gaming industry.
Aside from winning the "game of the year" category, Bethesda Softworks, the developer behind the "Skyrim" game also received an award for being the "Studio of the year". Todd Howard, the game director for Skyrim remarked upon receiving the award stating that "We (Bethesda Softworks) poured ourselves into this for the past three years."

Best Song and Original Score

The "Zelda" franchise that has been around for 25 years also became the first gaming franchise to be inducted in the "Hall of Fame". Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Zelda series was the one who accepted the award and gave the acceptance speech for the said award. Miyamoto remarked that "None of this would be possible without you. We all at Nintendo are humbled by your support."
The Spike Video Game Awards also provided a preview of the different games that will be launched by the year 2012. Some of the most-anticipated trailers include Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Command and Conquer Generals 2, and Rainbow 6 Patriots. The awards show also provided never-before seen footages from games such as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Bioshock Infinite, etc.
This is the ninth year for the Spike Video Game Awards. Zachary Levi, the star of "Chuck" and an avid gamer hosted the show. Performers for the night included Black Keys and Deadmau5.
