2015 Emmy Awards: 'Modern Family' Producer Admits Feeling Pressure To Secure Sixth Win
ABC’s hit show “Modern Family’ is facing pressure to become the first comedy series to win six consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards. Following the announcement of the nominees for the 2015 edition of the prestigious television awards on Thursday, the show’s producer admits that they feel the heat.
At the moment, “Modern Family” and “Frasier” are joint holders of the record number of consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series. With this year’s nomination, “Modern Family” has the opportunity to be the lone record holder with six trophies.
According to a report by ABC News Radio, Christopher Lloyd, the show’s co-executive producer, says that the expectations are very high. “Is this going to be the season where we lose and everybody says, 'OK, the show has turned bad all of a sudden'? And you don't want that. And it does create even more pressure on you to kind of keep the quality up," he explained.
Season 6 of the series has already been concluded and it remains to be seen if the cast and crew have done enough to clinch the historic win. The show has made household names of cast members like Sofia Vergara and Sarah Hyland. Ty Burell and Julie Bowen who play married couple Phil and Claire Dunphy on the show, have both been nominated for their supporting roles.
Lloyd admits that having only two members of the cast nominated came as a small disappointment but everyone is rallying behind Burell and Bowen. The show’s format does not focus on one particular main character but is a true ensemble performance. The main cast all form different but intertwined families that go about typical and hilarious situations relatable to modern-day families.
Standing in the way of “Modern Family” and their sixth straight Emmy Award are the following other nominees: “Louie,” “Parks And Recreation,” “Silicon Valley,” “Transparent,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Veep.” The 67th Prmetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to air on Sunday, September 20. The show will begin at 8:oo PM ET and will be aired live on FOX.
