2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI special edition priced at $48,990, upgrades, possible manual transmission and release date revealed
Volkswagen Australia has already confirmed the launch of a new and special edition of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI 40 Years edition. Alongside the expected launch in Australia come June, new details of the specs and other features have been revealed.
It appears that the new variant will be called the GTI 40 Years Edition in Australia. The Volkswagen Golf GTI 40 Years Edition will start at $48,990, which is a little pricier than the GTI Performance, Car Advice reported.
The additional overhead price does come with a lot of advantages over the Golf R. It features 213kW with overboost and 195kW without, so it is considered to be among the fastest Volkswage cars to date.
Other features include a six-speed DSG automatic and a zero to 100 km/h sprint in under 6 seconds, The Motor Report added. Other standards in the car include the Front Assist with City Emergency Brake, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control. Additionally, the company is still working on getting a manual version, though this has yet to be confirmed alongside its price and release date.
As far as numbers go, however, Volkswagen Australia has not yet given any definitive answers. But it did hint that the 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI 40 Years Edition will come in limited numbers.
The Volkswagen brand had recently come into a recall issue in Europe for its Passats diesel model. Automobile Mag reported that this has been halted indefinitely, as Volkswagen has currently stopped fixing the 2.0-liter turbodiesel engines while determining any possible effects of the software fix.
When asked for a statement by the publication, Volkswagen confirmed that the modifications that were supposed to fix and meet the emission laws in Europe will bring another side effect, which would be a higher fuel consumption and more noise.
For now, the company is still doing modifications and investigations. If the modifications are to be brought back, it will reportedly require 30 minutes for modifications to be done for every car.
