There is no doubt that Samsung is building a powerful phablet in the Galaxy Note 3, pegged for a September release date, but to date the actual specs to be flexed by the giant smartphone remain largely a mystery.

The popular notion is this second Samsung flagship will flash most of the Galaxy S4 prowess and more. For the most part, the Note 3 is reinventing the phablet segment that the Asian tech giant has introduced in 2011.

The device was met by scepticism then. Now, similar gadgets are coming out, Apple's iPhone 6 including, and to quickly make an impression they will need to best the features listed below and convince consumers in the process that phablet is not a Samsung monopoly.

A bendable display screen with alarm to prevent breakages

Reports were rampant earlier this year that flexible screen displays, touted for their extra durability, are crashing the tech scene. They eventually died out, with analysts insisting that the technology will not be perfected until 2014.

But in a recent patent application by Samsung, it was revealed that the company is developing a similar panel with extended capability. When installed with an upscale device like the Note 3, it will sound off an alarm to warn consumers that the glass is reaching its breaking point. Serving as pressure sensors are 'strain gauges'.

"The flexible display panel is designed to be bent, folded and unfolded with relative ease. The invented strain gauges are a type of sensor for measuring a strain based on the principle that when external forces are applied to a conductive wire, the conductive wire is elastically extended," Patent Bolt said in a report.

"When the strain of the flexible display panel measured by the strain gauges reaches a particular strain tolerance, the device will generate a warning signal by means of an alarm sound," the report added.

Enhanced camera features with optical zoom

Samsung strongly hinted of this powerful camera feature with the introduction of the Galaxy S4 Zoom, which highlights its shooting capabilities with a decent optical zoom, upgrading from the previous digital zoom of current camera phone builds.

The Note 3 would likely come with 3X optical zoom, ensuring that the flamboyant handset will capture images and clips with almost the same quality delivered by a stand-alone digital camera.

This feature alone, the GBM report said, will allow the Note 3 to easily trounce its rivals, at least in the tough snapping competition.

Long battery life plus quick and wireless recharging

It was rumoured that the Note 3 will be powered by Exynos Octa 5 CPU, which Samsung said will bring more muscle but efficient energy-use to the table. Based on these reports, the third-gen phablet, despite its top-notch components, will deliver more operating hours than its predecessors.

However, with the possibility that Snapdragon 800 is the powerhouse of choice for the device, the benefits are increased. The same chip, according to GBM, will run on Google's Nexus 7 2, which according to the tech giant will be juiced in under three hours, thanks to the QuickCharge 2.0 tech.

And the battery wonders don't stop there. Both the Exynos or Snapdragon chips are designed for optimal phablet and tablet functions, meaning that even with massive and crystal-clear screens, devices like the Note 3 will chug along in extended hours in a single charge.

Plus a bonus - wireless charging that actually is with the GS4. Samsung will likely give the Galaxy Note 3 with the same wireless charging capability on release date. And it adheres to the Qi standard so numerous charging accessories will suit well with the tech giant's second flagship.
