It's a given that Apple is unleashing the iPhone 5S and its rumoured phablet, the iPhone 6, with overwhelming features but three killer functions are likely to emerge as the major crowd draw on release date.

Basing on the new set of patents granted to the world's number one brand, Apple is well on its way to produce a new breed of smartphones that live up to the 'Smart' labelling.

One of the tech giant's new iPhone innovations is not exactly a groundbreaker but will nevertheless come out as an instant hit, according to Patently Apple. The tech blog site reckoned that Push-to-talk (PTT) is a mobile device function that "that would be appreciated by businesses and students alike."

Sure, there are other PTT apps designed for iOS gadgets out there but this is the first to flash the Apple signature. This upcoming iPhone feature, according to Apple, will deliver all known PTT benefits through a wireless data packet network.

In the other patent, Apple engineers seem determined to come up with a handset that prominently features a wrap-around display, presumably the phablet-size iPhone 6.

Numerous reports have indicated that this iPhone version will usher in a radical redesign of the company's top-selling gadget and with the fresh technology that the firm is working on, these speculations seem inching closer to reality.

Apple, Patently Apple said, is coming up with "a new flexible circuit supporting a double-sided touch panel that technically could be used for a wraparound display for a future iPhone."

In practical application, "rows and columns can be formed on a single side of a substrate, or can be formed on two separate substrates separated by a dielectric material," Apple's patent filing explained.

The same schematic supports the wrap-around display patent that Apple recently obtained, as the presence of multi-touch sensors is a must for the feature to function correctly, the same report said.

The third killer iPhone feature, surprisingly, is not made by Apple. Thanks to app developer James Clancey, future owners of iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 will enjoy the Google Play Music All Access that Google recently unveiled.

The service, as expected, was exclusive to Android devices but Mr Clancey baulked at the idea and decided to reconfigure his popular gMusic app to bypass the restriction. Soon enough the recoding should allow iPhone users to access Google's subscription music streaming service.

The revised gMusic is now up for approval in the App Store, according to BGR News, and should get Apple's nod soon, thereby readily available by the time Apple refreshes its iOS 7 smartphones.

Reports have indicated that the iPhone 5S is touching down on September this year while the iPhone 6 is pegged for a June 2014 release date.
