Samsung begins preparation technological innovation, using YOUM flexible screen display, selection of MediaTek and Exynos processors among upcoming Android devices and investment to wireless charging technology. Three upcoming things you should know about gearing for 2014.

First Smartphone with YOUM Flexible Display

Samsung officially acknowledge the upcoming smartphone, featuring YOUM flexible screen display which has been surrounded by rumours. SamMobile caught the details from AndroidSaS regarding the technical specifications of the first flexible smartphone.

Based on reliable sources, the smartphone featuring YOUM flexible display will boast of 4.7 inches of screen display with 720p resolution, quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 8-megapixel rear shooting camera with dual LED flash.

The specifications unveiled of the flexible screen bearing smartphone seem similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3, except for the RAM - the Galaxy S3 used 1GB of RAM. Another difference would be processor which could be newer like the Snapdragon 800 and may possibly feature 4G LTE, depending on Samsung.

Samsung probably decided to recycle older smartphone models with modifications of flexible screen display instead of sporting with top-of-the-line hardware components; however, the flexible screen is considered unique and top-notch.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean will run the device and TouchWiz UI out of the box. As of now, everything remains unconfirmed and it is unknown if Samsung will manufacture a Galaxy Note 3 variant with flexible screen display.

Samsung's Selection of Processors

Samsung may begin using other processor brands by mid-2014 which will be used in addition to Qualcomm's. According to Digitimes, Samsung will start using MediaTek processors by the latter of half of the year which currently is being used on their products in China and India.

MediaTek processors are planned to be featured on low-end and mid-range devices due to its affordable cost with quality performance. Samsung would likely help MediaTek strengthen its hold in the mobile chipset industry which is currently famous among local brands in Thailand and the Philippines.

Samsung Exynos processors are sticking among their flagship smartphones and tablets labelled as international variants. Qualcomm processor chips may remain included to products designed for the United States.

Investing $4 Million on Wireless Charging

Samsung Ventures Investment Corporation announced an investment of $4 million for PowerbyProxi's board on the wireless power industry. PowerbyProxi focuses on consumer electronics and industrial application which will help Samsung to work closely with the company, an active member of the Wireless Power Consortium or WPC. Currently, Samsung is a part of the Alliance for Wireless Power or A4WP.

Some flagship devices from Samsung are enabled to use wireless charging such as Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. In early 2013, wireless charging became popular among smartphones and being featured by Lumia brands and the Galaxy line.
