4.8-Inch iPhone 6 with IGZO/Retina Display Confirmed for a Global Release Date on June 2014 – Analyst
Apple CEO Tim Cook may be coy about it but the tech giant is actually looking to wow global consumers with a large-screen iPhone 6, which is geared for a June 2014 release date, a new report said.
In a new research note first published by the Financial Post, Jefferies analyst Peter Misek revealed that the iPhone 6 blueprint is ready to hit Apple's production lines anytime soon and the likelihood is the iOS phablet will debut before the end of Q2 2014.
As speculated earlier, the most exciting new feature of the handset is its bigger screen, which is in contradiction with the recent pronouncements aired by Mr Cook - that shipping out mobile phones with significantly larger screens lead to some "trade offs."
The Apple chief went on to say that until the fitting technology that would eliminate the screen compromise has become available, the tech giant will not release a big-screen handset, which analysts believe would be the iPhone 6.
"We would not ship a larger display iPhone while these tradeoffs exist," Mr Cook said.
At the same time, however, his declarations did not totally discount the possibility that Apple would soon enter the phablet competition, which its fiercest rival, Samsung, has started in 2011.
In brushing aside the iPhone 6 topic for now, Mr Misek said, Apple is aiming to focus consumers' attention on the upcoming iPhone 5S, which reports would be unveiled either on late September or early October en route to a full availability in the immediate weeks afterwards.
He added that the apparent delay on the iPhone 6 release date is due to the fact that Apple's supply chain is largely attuned to the iPhone 5S and its low-cost edition productions.
Mr Misek, however, is convinced that iPhone 6 will soon hit the production lines, noting that three quarters are required, at the very least, for Apple's manufacturing facilities to shift into another handset model.
In his previous postings, the Jefferies analyst had predicted that the iPhone 6 will represent a radical redesign of the Apple smartphone template, among them the ditching of the iconic Home button.
The Apple phablet is also believed to showcase the fusion of Retina and IGZO display technology, delivering to consumers screen rendering that is both crystal clear and more responsive to touch navigation.
