Some parents are torn whether or not they should teach their children to love technology. There are kids that spend hours playing video games while others actually learn a lot by acquiring information from the internet.

It is important to strike a balance to ensure that kids have fun and also benefit from state-of-the-art devices.

1. It is a form of entertainment

Children are less at risk when staying indoors and playing video games instead of exploring in outdoor environments without the proper guidance of adults. Often, parents only get to take their kids to the park and other outdoor areas on weekends or a few times each year. Parents have the advantage of monitoring their children's activities and keeping them safe from strangers by introducing them to entertaining apps and games, says high-tech parenting writer Scott Steinberg.

2. Limitless information sources

Teaching your kid how to use a tablet or computer will open opportunities for learning and encourage independent research. There are so many websites where children can gain knowledge in a fun and interactive manner. There are also age-specific websites and apps that make it easier for children to learn online.

3. Increase in social skills

Contrary to popular belief, letting children use computers and other gadgets can actually be helpful in boosting their social skills. A project funded by the United States Department of Education showed that children increase their self-esteem and work better in groups when technology is used to support learning.

4. Boosting cognitive skills

Playing video games can actually boost cognitive skills according to a study conducted at Radboud University. The various problems and challenges posed at various stages of a game encourage children to think critically as well as make intellectual decisions. Children are actually taught how to manage their emotions and not to easily get frustrated or angry during times of failure.

5. Children can teach adults

Younger generations easily adjust to changing trends and technologies compared to older adults. Parents usually find it difficult to learn new devices and technologies that can actually make their lives more convenient. Children can actually teach their parents how to use particular devices and programs that will specifically aid in their work.
