Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) finally took the veil off the much awaited MacBook Pro 2013 laptops.

The tech giant showed off the new MacBooks pack with Retina display and the 4th generation Intel Haswell processor in the latest Apple event.

Apple launched new thinner models both with 13 and 15 inch displays. Apple also slashed the price of the laptops as the new 13-inch model with retina display replaced the non-retina MacBook Pro for the same price of $1299.

The basic 13-inch model is only .71 inch thick, and lighter than 3 pounds. It features a 2.4 GHz Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM and128 GBSSD. Meanwhile, the base model for the 15-inch starts at $1999 and features a quad-core i7, 8GB RAM, and 256 SSD. Both models start shipping today.

The battery life of the new laptops lasts up to 9 hours, according to reports. The company dropped the optical drive for its new line of Macbook Pro laptops just like the new revamped iMacs that were launched last year.

Haswell processor - MacBook Pro 2013 packs 4th generation Intel Haswell processor that promises greater processing power compared to the previous models.

RAM - To aid the Haswell processor, MacBook Pro 2013 packs greater RAM. The 13-inch model packs 4GB RAM while the 15-inch MacBook Pro features 8GB of RAM.

OS X Mavericks - One of the most anticipated features of the MacBook Pro 2013 is the new Mac operating system. The new MacBook Pro 2013 packs the new OS X Mavericks. Cheaper price - Apple surprisingly slashed the price of the new MacBook Pro line. Apple will stop offering non-retina MacBook Pro. The 13 and 15 inch MacBook Pro models cost $1299 and $1999, respectively.
