One Direction may be the biggest boy band to date but it appears as if they might have competition with the new kids in town. 5 Seconds of Summer or popularly known as 5SOS is a four-member boy band making waves "down under." Here's everything there is to know about this up and coming Australian band of singers.

Formed in Australia the year 2011, 5SOS is composed of four members namely Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin. The pop rock band started back in college when they first recorded covers of the latest songs and posting them on YouTube. 5SOS became popular on the web all thanks to their cover of Justin Bieber and Chris Brown's hit "Next to You" which received over six hundred thousand views.

While some claim these boys are to be the next 1D sensation, it was all thanks to a member of One Direction that their fame skyrocketed. Louis Tomlinson had tweeted a link to 5SOS's' music video of "Gotta Get Out" to which he added he had long been a fan of the group. This had greatly increased the fans and followers of the Australian boy band.

Again, the boys have One Direction to thank once 2012 rolled in because Niall Horan had tweeted a link to their video of "Out of My Limit." To date, the boys have been nominated for Channel V's Oz Artist of the Year. 5SOS currently has one million followers on Twitter, four hundred thousand subscribers on YouTube and eight hundred thousand likes on Facebook.

Early this year, the boys joined One Direction on their "Take Me Home" tour. Afterwards, 5SOS announced their Australian Tour, "Pants Down Tour." Tickets were sold out in mere minutes. As of late, the boys are in London prepping up for their tour.

5SOS is bound to become as big as The Wanted and One Direction given they've already got a few obsessed fans from all over. Of course, the boys have One Direction to thank for their popularity. Right now, fans of the boys are patiently waiting on their debut album set to be released anytime next year.
