Amazon announced the newest addition to its Fire TV -- all 4K video support and an improved processor -- earlier this month. Here are the five things users need to know about Fire TV:
Price and availability
The new Amazon Fire TV can be pre-ordered at $99.99 (AU$ 142). Amazon will start shipping the device from Oct. 5. The device measures 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches and is accompanied by a remote, a Fire TV stick and an HDMI dongle. The Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition, which includes a number of games, improved graphics and a new gaming controller is a priced at $139.99 (AU$199), reports Nerd Wallet.
4K Content and Video Streaming
With 4K content, the new Amazon Fire TV surpassed Apple TV that offers 1080p resolution. Platforms like Netflix and Roku now offer ultra-high definition 4K content with much enhanced high quality video.
Fire TV supports 4K Ultra HD video streaming and is a pleasure for gamers and movie lovers. Users can watch high-definition 1080p streams on Amazon Video, Netflix and Hulu even without a 4K TV .
Improved Processor
The company claims the new model to be 75 percent more powerful with the upgraded processor. The new Fire TV, which runs on Android, is powered by a 2 GHz MediaTek Quad-Core processor with 2 GB of RAM. The 8 GB internal memory can be expanded to up to 128 GB with a microSD card.
Games, Movies and Apps
The device offers more than 3000 applications, games and channels. Users will be able to play games, including Minecraft Story Mode, Disney’s Ducktales, Pac Man 256 and Shovel Knight, reports Neurogadget. Users can enjoy over 250,000 TV episodes, music and movies on Netflix, Amazon Video and HBO GO.
Additionally, Amazon Prime members can avail of unlimited access to thousands of movies and TV episodes through Prime Video and listen to over one million songs with Prime Music.
Improved Voice Assistant
With improved Wi-Fi connectivity and voice assistant Alexa, a cloud-based voice service, the new Fire TV is much superior to its predecessor. The enhanced voice assistant can come up with weather updates, play music, search movies and much more.
