$99 Xiaomi Redmi 1S Smartphone To Come With 4.7-Inch Display, Snapdragon 400, 1GB RAM And More
After tasting success with Xiaomi Mi4, the company has launched the Redmi 1S handset by striking a partnership with India's famous e-commerce site Flipkart. The uniquely-named Xiaomi Redmi 1S will start shipping from Sept. 2 in India. And the phone is now available for pre-registration. However, there is no information available right now to ascertain the release date in other parts of the globe.
The Redmi 1S can be purchased for INR 5,999 in India (that roughly translates to US$99 and AU$106). It is worth noting that, the aforementioned handset was marked to be launched for 1000 INR more than the current price. However, Xiaomi settled for US$99 equivalent price range in India, according to NDTV.
When it comes to specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S smartphone will feature a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 1,280 pixels screen resolution and 312 ppi pixel density. The handset will be powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.6 GHz and 1 GB of RAM. In addition, the handset will run on Android OS v4.3 (Jelly Bean) with MIUI v5 on top of it. Nevertheless, the company has assured that the Redmi handset will be upgraded to Android OS v4.4 KitKat coupled with MIUI v6 towards the end of this year.
As far as the memory goes, the handset will offer 8 GB of internal storage and microSD card support for expansion up to 32 GB. Moreover, the smartphone houses a good 8 MP rear-facing camera unit with LED flash and 1.6 MP shooter as the secondary unit. Also, the device is backed by a solid Li-Po 2000 mAh battery unit.
Going by the images, the device has a premium-looking solid body. Moreover, Xiaomi Redmi's matte-effect laden back panel is removable. Sooner or later, the company is planning to offer vivid and colourful rear panels specific to the handset for INR 459 that roughly translates to US$7 and AU$8.
Other specifications include thick bezels surrounding the display and the much-required dual-SIM support. The phone will come in Black, Chinese Red, Metallic Gray/ blue, green and yellow hues. Interested readers can check out the images of the aforementioned handset from NDTV.
