Acer Chromebook, C720: Thinner and Faster -- Cheapest Haswell Laptop at $249.99
Chromebook enthusiasts have something to look forward to. Acer has been a trusted loyalist, working on improving its Chromebook offerings and now the C720 which had its debut at this year's IDF show, is available to buy. The company announced, Thursday, that the first among its C720 Chromebook line will be available for pre-order on Amazon.com and Bestbuy.com.
Called the Acer C720-2800 Chromebook, this is the first model in the series, packed with an improved Chrome OS. Having the Chrome browser and improved Chrome OS means the system offer multiple user support, with the capability to be remotely administered. Gmail gets included and users have access to all apps in Google's Chrome Web Store which get built-in into the system.
Physically, the C720 Chromebook is 30 per cent thinner at 0.75 inches thickness and weighs just 2.76 pounds. Adding to its glory, it promises all day battery life of 8.5 hours. Expectedly, it is also Acer's fastest Chromebook yet.
Importantly, this latest one from the Acer stable features an Intel Celeron 2955U processor based on Haswell micro-architecture. The C720 Chromebook is priced at $249.99, and experts believe this is the cheapest it can get.
Similar to its earlier variants, the C720 Chromebook gets the latest version of the Chrome OS and comes packed with the 4GB DDR3L memory and a 16GB SSD storage.
With an 11.6-inch anti-glare widescreen, the Acer C720 Chromebook offers 1,366-by-768 resolution. Acer also claims that its latest Chromebook will boot up in just 7 seconds. It offers a full-size Acer FineTip keyboard with a multi-gesture touchpad. The machine also comes with the option of 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi to get to Google's cloud-based storage. With a HD webcam and microphone for video conferencing, the C720 Chromebook is well framed for video communication as well. The machine also comes with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports for external storage and peripherals connections.
And like others, you can hook the system up to a HDTV or external monitor with the built-in HDMI port. A SD card reader is ideally placed too, for viewing and uploading pictures and videos to the Internet.
Acer is offering the C720 Chromebook with the standard warranty of one-year which can be extended to three years with Acer Advantage service.
