Acer Follows Dell Latitude, Aspire S7-392 Has Haswell Inside Competes with Macbook Pro and Sony Vaio
Acer now offers an ultrabook with Haswell inside. Last June at the Computex event, Acer revealed their refreshed S7 ultrabooks. From that introduction, the tech company now officially announced that the new systems or laptops are ready for order.
Acer will begin shipping of their Haswell-based S7 ultrabook line.
The most important point in the release of the new S7-392 is the Haswell chips. Intel's Haswell or fourth generation core processors have been known to support some of the best high end notebooks today including MacBook Pro and Sony Vaio.
Just like the rest of the competition, Acer is offering their S7-392 within the higher price bracket compare to their previous offerings. The first generation S7 or S7-931 was released in 2012. It was packed with Intel's Ivy Bridge plus 4GB of Ram.
The S7-931 came in two types: 11 inches and 13.3 inches.
The new S7-932 also has two options. Both choices are in a 13.3-inch format. RAM has also been doubled up. Variants now have 8GB of RAM.
The S7-392-6832 runs using a Core i5-4200U processor plus a 128GB solid-state drive. The S7-392-9890, on the other hand, runs on a Core i7-4500U CPU. It has double the SSD capacity at 256GB. Both models have Gorilla Glass lids, Acer's Twin Air cooling ensuring better cooling and updated keyboards. They have also have Wireless Display or WiDi support.
The two models weigh approximately 2.9 pounds. They have a resolution of 1920 x 1080. This was different from the 2560 x 1440 announced during the Computex event. Acer did not think it would be good to change the price dramatically so the values of the ultrabooks are still within the original range of the first generation.
The original S7 lineup was costly than most devices. The 11.6 inch S7 started at $1999. This was already the least expensive among the products. The new models, on the other hand, are within the same price range of Apple's MacBook pro laptops. The S7 6832 is available starting at $1449 whereas the S7 9890 is available starting at $1699.
The new S7 series from Acer is available on their Web site and other retail stores like Newegg and Amazon.
